10월 12일 토요일, 강진고등학교의 정한성 교장선생님, 중국어 원어민 교사인 이효나 선생님 그리고 저(영어 원어민 선생님)는 강진만 생태 공원의 남도 음식 축제에 참여하였습니다.
이 행사는 지난 26년간 열렸으며, 전라남도를 대표하는 맛있는 음식들을 보여주었습니다.
우리가 축제에 도착했을 때, 우리는 전시장 주변을 걸어 다녔습니다. 전시장에서는 도내 22개의 도시와 군 지역의 다양한 대표 음식이 진열되어 있었습니다.
각각의 지역은 고장의 가장 유명한 음식을 자랑할 기회를 가졌습니다. 전시는 기발하게도 전라남도의 동서남북 방향에 따라 나누어져 있어서 길을 찾아다니기에 매우 용이하였습니다.
전시회는 한국의 전통음식, 특히 전라남도에서 잘 알려진 음식을 기념하기에 좋은 방법이었습니다. 이 기회로 저는 한국의 전통음식을 새로이 알게 되었으며, 맛보고 싶은 한국 음식이 더욱 늘어났습니다.
남도 음식 축제는 또한 퍼레이드, 음식 경연, 음식 맛보기 제공, 음식 시장, 그리고 문화 예술 공연들로 방문객들을 흥겹게 하였습니다.
전시회를 본 후에, 마른 오징어로 꽃을 만드는 수업을 듣기도 하였습니다. 상상도 못 해본 경험이라 매우 신이 났습니다.
토요일 아침은 음식 시장에서의 간단한 산책으로 마무리 하였습니다. 그 곳에선 전라남도의 각 고장을 대표하는 음식을 만들고 파는 판매대가 즐비하였습니다.
우리는 강진 음식 판매대를 방문하여 맛있는 불고기를 점심으로 하였습니다. 기대치 않게 그 곳에서 이승옥 강진 군수님을 만나 뵙고 인사를 나누기도 하였습니다.
시장에서 나오는 길에는 강진의 유명한 갈대밭을 슬쩍 볼 수 있는 행운을 누렸습니다. 이 날의 축제 방문을 기념하려 저는 기념품으로 아름다운 팔찌를 구매하였습니다.
남도 축제 참가는 매우 뿌듯하게 아침 시간을 보낼 수 있었던 외출이었습니다.
이렇게 저에게 한국의 문화에 심취할 수 있는 기회를 주신 것에 대해 강진고등학교의 정한성 교장선생님께 매우 감사를 드립니다.
Emerged in Namdo cuisines

On Saturday 12th of October, Jeong Han Seong(the principal of Gangjin Highschool), Lee Hyo Na(the Chinese native Teacher), and me(the English native Teacher) attended the Namdo Food Festival at the Gangjin Bay Ecology Park. This is an event that has been running for the past 26 years to showcase the delicious food that Jeollanamdo is well known for.
When we arrived at the festival, we walked around an exhibition hall that displayed different representative foods from the twenty-two cities and counties that make up the province of Jeollanamdo. Each city/ county had an opportunity to parade the food that they are most famous for. The exhibition had been split up into north, south, east and west Jeollanamdo so it was easy to navigate. The exhibition was a brilliant way to celebrate traditional Korean food and more specifically the food that is well known in Jeollanamdo. It was also the perfect way for me to get acquainted with some traditional food that I had not been introduced to yet. I now have a long list of new foods to try.
Other events at the Namdo Food Festival include parades, food contests, sampling of food, a food market and cultural art performances to entertain visitors. After the exhibition, we were given a lesson in making flowers out of dried squid which was something that I never expected to learn but it was a lot of fun!
Our morning ended with a stroll around the food market where each city or county that makes up Jeollanamdo had a stand of their own that was making and selling food. We visited the Gangjin county stand and had some delicious Bulgogi for lunch. We unexpectedly greeted Lee Seung Oak, the mayor in Gangjin. We were also lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the well-known field of reeds on our way out and we each left with a beautiful bracelet as a souvenir.
Overall, it was a great morning out and a wonderful experience for me to immerse myself in Korean culture! I deeply appreciate the principal Jeong from Gangjin Highschool for this opportunity.
